Yesterday we walked with purpose. 💙 So proud to represent IG Wealth Management at the Walk for Alzheimer’s. We were surrounded by amazing people, beautiful weather, and a cause worth every step.
Incredibly grateful for the opportunity to speak at a business succession planning seminar last week in collaboration with the Huntsville Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce and the Community Lab at the Huntsville Public Library.
The energy in the room was something special. This group came prepared, asking sharp questions and diving deep into the conversation. That’s exactly the kind of open dialogue that turns a seminar into a real learning experience. 💡
Here’s a stat that puts it all into perspective:
📊 60–80% of a small business owner’s net worth is tied up in their business - this is true for many business owners across Canada.
That means your exit strategy isn’t just a business decision. It’s one of the most important financial decisions of your life. Your succession plan is what stands between you and the retirement income you need to maintain the lifestyle you’ve worked so hard to build.
The biggest takeaway? Start early. ⏳
Succession planning isn’t a one-dimensional exercise. It requires an integrated approach. One that looks at every aspect of your financial health and ensures your business planning is working in support of your long-term personal goals. The two are inseparable.
Thank you to the Huntsville Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce and the Community Lab at the Huntsville Public Library for making this happen. Proud to bring this conversation to our local business community.

Most people are doing the “right” things when it comes to retirement.
Saving consistently. Investing regularly. Staying disciplined.
But what’s often missing isn’t effort, it’s clarity.
A retirement plan isn’t just about what you’ve accumulated.
It’s about how everything connects: your lifestyle, your timeline, and how your income will support the life you want to live.
And for many professionals and business owners, that’s where the gap is.
There’s progress, but not always a clear picture of what it’s all for.
The shift doesn’t come from simply saving more.
It comes from stepping back and planning with intention.
If this resonated with you, it may be the right time to take a closer look at your overall plan. I’m always happy to have a thoughtful conversation.

You’re capable. You’re smart.
So why does money still feel so hard to talk about?
If you’ve ever thought:
“I should probably get more organized…”
or
“I know I need to understand this better…”
…but keep putting it off, you’re not alone.
That’s exactly why we created Speaking of Money a financial event for women taking place in Huntsville, designed to make money feel simpler, clearer, and less overwhelming.
This isn’t a lecture.
This isn’t about having everything figured out.
It’s a space for real conversations about money, without judgment, pressure, or expectations.
✨ You’ll leave with:
• A clear strategy to understand where your money is going

At some point, every business owner faces a defining question:
Do I sell my business, or transition it to the next generation?
On the surface, it may seem like a simple decision. However, in reality, it’s anything but.
What I see consistently is that many owners focus on the transaction: the sale price, the timing, the buyer, but far fewer take the time to work through the full financial and personal implications of the transition itself.
A few considerations that are often underestimated or overlooked:
Valuation: Do you have a clear, objective understanding of what your business is worth today, and how that value could change under different circumstances?
After-tax outcomes: The amount you ultimately retain can differ significantly from the headline number, depending on structure, debt, and tax exposure
Family transitions: Passing a business on introduces complexity around readiness, financing, and family dynamics that require careful planning
Retirement alignment: Will the outcome of this transition truly support the lifestyle and long-term financial security you envision?
Ultimately, this is not just a financial decision.
It’s a strategic transition that impacts your legacy, your family, and the value you’ve spent years, often decades, building.
The strongest outcomes I see are never rushed.
They are the result of early conversations, thoughtful structuring, and alignment across financial, tax, and personal priorities.
If this is something you’ve started to think about, even if it feels a few years away, I’ll be speaking on exactly this topic later this month at the Huntsville Public Library:
It’s designed to help business owners better understand what to consider before, during, and after a transition is underway.
And as always, I’m happy to connect for a thoughtful, no-pressure conversation if you’d prefer to explore your situation one-on-one.

Still wondering if this event is for you?
Speaking of Money was created to make space for honest, judgment‑free conversations about money. The kind of conversations many women don’t often have.
This evening isn’t about having all the answers.
It’s about asking the questions that matter to you, openly or anonymously, while gaining clarity without pressure, jargon, or feeling like you “should already know.”
You’ll hear thoughtful questions from women at different stages of life, learn from shared perspectives, and leave feeling more confident in the decisions you’re making (or preparing to make).
If you value clarity, connection, and informed financial decision‑making, you belong in this room.

Selling your business isn’t just a financial milestone, it’s a strategic transition.
In IG Wealth Management’s article, Finding the Right Buyer for Your Business, one message stands out:
The best outcomes come from thoughtful preparation and aligning with the right buyer, not simply accepting the highest offer.
The article highlights several realities I see often when working with business owners:
Businesses sell more successfully when planning starts well before a sale is imminent
Buyers look closely at financial clarity, operational independence, and long‑term viability
The right buyer is one who can carry the business forward, not just pay the most for it
Sellers feel most supported when careful consideration is given to all aspects of the transition, particularly with regards tax planning and legacy goals
Succession planning done well gives owners more control, stronger negotiating power, and greater confidence in what comes next.
If you’re a Muskoka business owner thinking about succession, even if it’s years away, I invite you to join me for an upcoming conversation:

“I don’t even know what question to ask.”
It’s one of the most common, and most important, starting points in financial planning.
Money can feel overwhelming when everything sounds important, urgent, and complicated. And whether you’re building wealth, running a business, managing a household, preparing for retirement, or simply wanting to feel more confident and independent. Clarity and a tailored strategy are often the missing piece.
Speaking of Money is a focused, advisor-led session designed to simplify the noise and give you a clearer path forward.
We’ll walk through:
• What actually matters right now (and what can wait)
• How to get organized and feel in control of your finances
• Common gaps people don’t realize they have
• Simple ways to start making more confident financial decisions
• How to build independence and clarity, at any stage
This is a professional, educational environment, grounded in real strategy, not general advice.
