This June, we're thinking about every boy and man who carries that weight, and about the research that could one day lift it. Dr. Shapiro's team is working toward a future where the body can produce its own insulin again — taking a patient's own stem cells and reprogramming them into insulin-producing cells.

The science is real, the progress is steady, and we're not going to stop until there's a cure.

This is Clara. She’s a pre-med student from Humboldt living with Type 1 diabetes. Last month she toured the Shapiro Lab to see the team’s cure-focused research up close, and she also signed this very special poster outside the lab.

She said it best herself: “Hopefully one day this lab won’t be needed anymore.” We’re working on it, Clara! 🔬🧬
