"Wood" You Believe What Kids Can Build?
On December 14, we had another “Explore 4H” meeting, at a volunteer’s house. I chose to build a shelf, but I also could have chosen to build a chair, or book ends. I found building to be pretty easy, since all I had to do was screw it together, along with some minor sanding. This only took me 1 hour and 30 minutes, so I had a bit of free time. (The meeting was 3 hours long). The shelf turned out really nice, and fits well in my bedroom. R. had chosen to build a portable chair, which involved a bit more work. I helped him build a part of it, and also fitted it. Once most people were finished, Trevor brought out a wood burner, to burn our names into the projects. Overall, this was a very fun event. It also made me consider joining Trevor's wood working class next year. I can’t wait for the next “Explore 4H” event.

Learn to Do by Doing!
On Saturday, November 29, we had our second “Explore 4H” meeting. Our project was focused around home renovation, so wiring and building. Our first task was to cut the wood to size. We then gathered the planks, and built a frame. Once we had finished screwing the frame together, we attached the drywall to it by way of special “drywall screws." The next step was to wire the whole thing. Overall, a fun but difficult project.

Shutter Speed Superstars!
On October 19, 2025, we had our first “explore 4H” meeting. Our meeting, which was dedicated to photography, took place at a park on the grounds of the Alberta legislature.
Our first lesson was on lens length. By changing the length of a lens, we could zoom in or zoom out, allowing us to take better pictures. After a demonstration, we practiced with each other. I got to use Steve’s camera, since it was much better than my phone. We took some pretty goofy pictures too!
Overall this was a really fun event and I am looking forward to more “Explore 4H” activities in the future.
