Cemeteries are so unique in New Orleans. Above ground tombs enriched deep in history. Most cemeteries you can’t visit unless you are part of a tour.
St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 is the oldest cemetery in New Orleans. And I’ll be honest I purchased a ticket for a tour so I could go in and tour around. The graves are above ground bc of the city’s low-lying, swampy terrain and high water table. And nothing like I’ve ever seen!
This cemetery has a lot of history along with the tomb of the famous voodoo Marie Laveau. Her tomb is the last photo.
