This past weekend, my family, team, and I were invited to come out and help with the River and Pathway Cleanup. This is a great event planned annually by the Cliff Bungalow-Mission, Erlton, and Rideau-Roxboro Community Associations, with support from MNP and the City.
It was a great way to spend the day, giving back to the community and being outdoors. I definitely recommend watching for this event next year and coming out!

Last Friday, Council attended the Mobility tour where we were able to learn more about Calgary Parking and Mobility, and the services they provide our city. Many of the everyday issues we encounter fall under the purview, like roads and sidewalks and everything that comes along with them.
The truck in the first image is used primarily for bridge inspections. Bridges are inspected regularly, and with so many old bridges in Ward 8, it was great to learn more about this process.
The second image is freshly laid asphalt. Calgary operates its own asphalt plant that produces about 100,000 tonnes annually, allowing crews to produce asphalt on demand for both planned projects and emergency repairs. If it wasn't for this plant running year-round, the road by the burst feeder main would only be being repaired now. This plant also supports crews responding to potholes year-round, adjusting methods based on weather conditions and seasonal impacts. Calgary is the only municipality in Canada with defined pavement quality targets tied directly to funding levels for different road types, so we will certainly be having conversations at budget time in November about potholes and pavement quality.
One last interesting fact since this is getting quite long already:
Calgary Parking operates on a cost-recovery model, funded entirely through parking revenue (not property taxes) and returned over $22.6 million to The City in 2025. So, every time you pay a parking ticket, you are helping keep our taxes lower!

Today Council joined a coalition of municipalities calling on the Province to pause changes to disability supports. I was proud to sponsor this motion with Councillor Schmidt. We need real consultation, clear data, and a plan that protects people from deeper poverty without shifting costs to cities.

Another interesting fact I learned was that Telus sponsors their Purple Galaxy Pass, which provides Grade 7 students in Calgary and surrounding areas is a one-year pass for free admission at TELUS Spark. More info: https://www.sparkscience.ca/purple-galaxy

My team and I attended the Cavalry FC Home Opener today, and had a great time. I’ve been to games previously and always enjoy the energy that comes with the crowd and the excitement of the game. I’m looking forward to going again soon⚽
I’ve heard it so many times at the doors: Calgarians feel uneasy about political parties in municipal elections and City Hall.
And I said as much in a recent Livewire article: “You vote for somebody who is representing your ward and representing you, and then the parties bring in an extra layer of distraction and maybe confuse an expectation because of the fact that they are essentially working together as a slate. But city council doesn’t function as a slate.”
