Whitby’s harbour wall

This was taken looking out toward the harbour entrance in Whitby. The light was low and the shadows stretched across the water, and the old lighthouse caught the last of the warmth. The small boat drifted through at the right moment, adding a bit of life to a quiet scene.

What I liked was the contrast between the still structure of the pier and the movement on the water. Whitby has its own mood. There’s history in the stone and a darker story tied to the place, but it’s calm when you’re standing there.

When you look at this, what draws your eye first — the lighthouse, the boat, or the mood of the scene?

A quiet moment in Whitby

I took this on the famous steps in Whitby. The light was soft and the tide was low, and this couple walked down the stairs at an easy pace. Nothing staged, i waited for them to pass and grabbed this shot courtesy of them. Just a simple moment that matched the feel of the place.

What I liked was the way the steps pulled down into the town and the sea beyond. The rooftops, the harbour wall, and the shape of the coastline all lined up without needing to move.

When you look at this, what do you see first — the couple, the town, or the view out to the water?

A moment on the streets of Calgary

I was walking through downtown when this scene unfolded. One person, moving through the curve of the structure, arms up for a second like they’d had enough of the day.

What caught my eye was the shape of the walkway and how it framed the figure. The curve, the lines, the contrast between shadow and the city behind. Nothing staged. Just a small moment that says more than it looks.

When you look at this, what do you notice first — the shape, the movement, or the mood?
