‘For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the LORD, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

In 2015, and again in 2016, there were articles published in the New York Times of an interview with a not-so-well-regarded politician. He stated that Canada has ”no core identity.”

I’ve lived long enough to know that is untrue. I’ve always felt it, but only recently really understood, that Canada not only has an identity, but it has a God given identity. This makes Canada unique in this world.

It’s been joked that Canada is the “51st state” of America. In the last few years I’ve come to appreciate America and it’s place in the world and In God’s plans, but I am not American – I am Canadian!

I was recently reminded of those Molson Canadian “I am Canadian” commercials from the 90’s and I discovered one that I had never seen before called “Anthem” on YouTube. The pic is a screenshot from that commercial. While beer was only shown incidentally, it did depict a lot of Canadians from across the country and from different time periods singing this song about being “proud to be Canadian!” The lyrics are below:

As I look out at the times we live in, I can see the winds of change and restoration. While times are tough for so many, as we rediscover and reclaim our God given Canadian identity, we will over come in the true spirit of what makes us Canadian.

Now, more than ever, we need to remember and reflect upon all the things that make Canada and Canadians so unique. Like and share this post and I encourage everyone to share your memories and reasons you love being Canadian.

Just recently our federal government, in their infinite wisdom and mercy, have decided to give Canadians a 2 month GST tax break on some items. We just want to ensure that everyone is aware that there never has been GST or HST on coffee. Just another great reason to stock up on coffee this Christmas season. 😁
