Wild Ones (Original) - Bart Taylor 05/23/2026

This song is an extremely personal story about an amazing and special group of people who I had the honour of growing up with, several of whom I am still regularly in contact with after all these years. When we left school all those years ago, we proudly referred to ourselves as the "Wild Ones", with some of us staying and making our hometown and Province more beautiful, and others like myself always restlessly looking at a new horizon and living out of a suitcase. All of us either way, tried to change things for the better, doing it by always remaining true to who we were, remembering our values, and leading by example. Some of us aren't here anymore, and we will forever hold a spot for them at our table because all of us will always be connected by the special moments we have shared as kids, and adults. You all know who you are, and this is for all of us.

I was recently asked by a colleague of mine who still plays live music on stage if I thought AI was taking over the music world and was making false musicians. To be honest I don’t think anything beats watching a group of people play on stage and being one of them that did it for decades, I feel that AI will never have the warmth or dynamics that a live show could ever have. For me, using AI isn’t about trying to cheat the system in any way, and it isn’t designed to reduce anything for anyone. It’s a hammer in my opinion, and it lets me get what is in my head down into something I can tangibly listen to. I don’t ask AI to do it all though - I write my music as best I can in my studio, run it through my DAW (Ableton) to make it as mastered as best I can, and then I get AI to take my song complete with all the lyrics I write myself, and make it into something I can enjoy that sounds better than my limited ability allows. I’m not doing this to make money, or convince someone I’m a musician, because both of those things I’ve done for years already on a thousand stages. For me, it’s about getting to hear what’s in my head already as a song, come out of the speakers with lyrics that I write about my experiences. I’m just sharing them because I really enjoy them - if you like them, fantastic. If you don’t, that’s equally fantastic. Either way, that’s the power of any music, and it allows us to enjoy it however we feel it works. I think of AI as a new version of the Fairlight CMI or Roland Jupiter 8 that we used back in the 80’s and 90’s – it brings a new depth to things and lets us put a thousand people on stage with us, but we still need to do the work. I know some don’t do the work and just get AI to do it and that’s their choice as it's yours if you like it or not. I don’t do it that way, so for me I just love to get what’s been bouncing around in my head for years out so I can hear it the way I hear it myself. Music to me has so many layers that I’ll never lie about how I make my songs, but I also won’t agree that they are not real music. If it makes a person happy to listen to it, regardless of what anyone else says, that’s the entire point. Music saved my life a thousand times over my years, both figuratively and literally, so the least I can do is just enjoy it regardless of how it’s made. I’m proud of what I write, as anyone should be because I’m doing a lot of the work. I’ll still go cheer on any of my friends who are on stage and admire what they are doing, but I’ll also still listen to music my other friends write with some help from AI if I like the song. You can do both, and it’s perfectly fine to recognize the differences while still being able to enjoy it. I’ll still practice my instruments either way, write a thousand lyrics, and find new chord progressions as I go that I like, and I’m more than happy with that. My music is out there for free on YouTube, Spotify, and a bunch of others just for fun so enjoy it if it helps you. At the end of the day, to me that’s what it’s all about. Nothing has to take anything else over. It can just be something different in my books. Peace everyone. - AM
