Never a bad day to be on set. 🎬

Happy Saturday!

We're building a studio!! 🎬

We’ve been dreaming of it for a while, and it feels surreal to actually have the project underway!

We’re building a space that has 3 different background options, sound deadening, a space for monitoring and review, and a hair/make-up station. It’s going to be a cozy studio space, perfect for interviews and script reads.

We’re still in the demolition phase, but we can’t wait to share updates as the project goes on.

And you already know we’ve got a timelapse cam set up to capture the whole transformation. 😊

Stay tuned!

All set up and ready to interview!

It's so important to have a test subject to help with dialing in the framing, lighting, and audio before the interviewee even sits down. This prep makes the session go smoothly and keeps everything on track.

In this case, the set up was fairly quick, because it's hard to go wrong with natural window light + a cozy local cafe. 😊

How do we know when and where we can film with the best natural light?

The most visually interesting natural light occurs when the sun is closer to the horizon (rather than directly overhead), but this can be difficult to plan around for two reasons. First, the sun's relative position in our sky at a given time varies drastically throughout the year. Second, the mountains and buildings often get in the way of the sun.

By using shademap.app we are able to find exact times and locations for the best natural light.

Authenticity is huge when it comes to interviews. When the interviewee is relaxed and comfortable, it goes such a long way to make the video authentic and, ultimately, effective. We work hard to bring realness and authenticity out of every interviewee we work with. There are 4 key ways that we do this:

1. A Relaxed Atmosphere: We create a calm and relaxed atmosphere by coming in, setting up, and presenting ourselves in a way that puts people at ease.

2. Warm-up Questions: We ask warm-up questions like, “What’s your favourite colour?” to help people get comfortable speaking with the cameras present.

3. Non-Verbal Encouragement: We nod, smile, make facial expressions, and use other non-verbal cues to encourage the interviewee and show that we are actively listening.

4. Seamless Transitions: We transition seamlessly into recording without making a big scene or calling “Action!” to draw attention to the cameras. We want the interviewee to forget the cameras are there and feel like they are just having a conversation.

We recently got to work with Message Canada!

Initially, they wanted to share their story through one longer video. As we talked through their goals and who their audience is, we worked together to reshape their plan into a campaign with several shorter, focused videos that each speak to a very specific part of their audience.

This is a great example of why we love what we do. We bring our knowledge of content, targeting, social media, and marketing into every project. Before we talk "video", we always start zoomed out and talk about goals to make sure that the video project is going to help you achieve what you want to.

Casey and her family found their ideal home at the Rail District, and having their story documented is such a powerful tool.

Getting past clients in front of the camera is an incredible way to build trust. Seeing and hearing directly from someone who has worked with you allows your audience to picture themselves doing the same, and achieving that same happiness and success.

Thank you Infinity Properties for trusting us to tell this story.

Video is such an effective way to share testimonials. Seeing the final result and hearing a client's review builds trust with your audience in ways that text alone can't.

Thank you to Kenorah Design + Build for trusting us with this project!
