The scarlet macaws are back! 🦜

There are reports that the scarlet macaws are back at Red Bank - early this year. I highly recommend this half day trip. Get there early - before sunrise if possible - pick up a guide in the village and watch the flocks fly in from the west. Or make it late afternoon when they gather to fly to their roost. And if you are lucky, you will see them bunch up to feed on fruiting trees like this image taken last year. I also recommend a side trip to the valley behind the hills which use to be a feeding ground for the macaws and is now the Mennonite villages of Roseville and Nueland - farmland.

Tomorrow is Garifuna Settlement Day here in Belize! 🎉
A day of celebration to commemorate the first arrival of the Garifuna people in 1832. The Garifuna community will host parades, street festivals and sell traditional food.
Here in Placencia, you can watch a reenactment of the first arrival of the Garinagu on dories at Tipsy Tuna Seaside & Sports Bar, Placencia, Belize, and experience some live drumming and singing.
