The Garinagu people are one of the most resilient groups in this country. Many have put systems in place to marginalize indigenous people. No matter what, they rise.
Two hundred and twenty-four years ago the Garinagu arrived in Roatan, Honduras after weeks of traveling by sea from Baliceaux after being exiled originally from St. Vincent.
The British wished the journey would have annihilated the race, but instead it strengthened their will to keep their culture alive. The truth is the British feared what the Garinagu stood for and made certain they kept other races and development away from Garifuna communities. Even though those original characters are gone, this practice has continued for decades. But the time has come to break this cycle.
Today, Recological Systems Ltd. wants to improve the economic and social conditions of Garinagu in the south by being a part of this rich culture. We have seen how we can provide some of what Dangriga has been denied over the years. Your struggles and survival are testament of the fact that we can build Dangriga together.
