POINT BASED SYSTEM PASS MARK
EMPLOYEES

The revision of the point based system is more responsive to employee needs as it has alternative routes in which individuals can qualify for a Work and Residence Permit as per the eligibility criteria on Table 1. The pass mark for fresh applications is 60%.
INVESTORS
The PBS has been structured according the levels of investors.

Tier 1 Investor
This is an investor coming to Botswana and setting up a project sponsored by recognised public institutions, (i.e. Botswana Trade and Investment Centre (BITC), Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO), HUBS etc). Approvals shall be automatic as long as the applicants are successful with the security vetting. However, the assessment criterion for Tier 1 Investor is under development and will be communicated as soon as possible. In the meantime, the status quo will apply in respect of this class.

Tier 2 Investor – Production Sector (Owner manager)
Investors will be subjected to a full assessment through the Point Based System as per published eligibility criteria on Table 2.

Tier 3 Investor – Services Sector (Owner manager)
Investors will be subjected to a full assessment through the Point Based System as per published eligibility criteria on Table 3.

RENEWALS

NB: The Point Based System pass mark is applicable to renewals for Work and Residence Permits as per Table 4 and Table 5. The pass mark for renewal is 50% for both employees and investors.
