This morning, I attended the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Botswana Stock Exchange and the Gaborone City Council.

This partnership marks a significant step forward in the city’s growth and development, aligning financial infrastructure with municipal planning to foster investment, transparency, and economic progress.

PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN BOTSWANA STOCK EXCHANGE AND GABORONE CITY COUNCIL ON MUNICIPAL BONDS

The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) and the Gaborone City Council (GCC) this morning signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the BSE Offices in Gaborone, setting the stage for the exploration of municipal bonds as a new financing mechanism for urban development.

Officiating the event, Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Hon. Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, described the collaboration as timely and transformative, addressing one of the most critical aspects of urban growth – access to capital. He highlighted that traditional financing channels have proven insufficient to meet the rapidly growing demands for modern infrastructure, sanitation, waste management, housing, sustainable transport systems, and smart city capabilities.
