Institute of Science of Mind
Institute is a learning centre. Science means knowledge of any kind. And in this context, science refers to the understanding and knowledge of the nature of our mind.
We need to understand the nature of mind as it creates both suffering and eternal peace. Knowing the nature of mind can help us in overcoming pain and sustaining happiness until we become fully enlightened.
The nature of mind will be known through studying, contemplating and meditating on the meaning taught in the scriptures by Buddha and commentaries written by great masters. For instance in the text titled ‘Abhidharmakosakarika’ that we study in first year, the author has thoroughly explained the types of primary minds and mental events. Primary mind refers to consciousness and mental events refer to thoughts. Then, in the text on valid cognition that we study in second year, the author meticulously explains how these primary minds and mental events or thoughts comprehend their respective objects. And in the text called Jewel Ornament of Liberation that we study in third year, the absolute nature of those minds is explained. These texts are complimented by many more Buddhist texts.
Therefore being a learning centre where we study the nature of our mind by relying on authentic scriptures, our institute is known as ‘Institute of Science of Mind’.
