Our technical partner Camino Verde Peru, working in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, felt the impact of USAIDโs funding freeze indirectly through its own partners. In 2025, when USAID was effectively paralyzed, two of their partners pulled back within the same day. A signed consultation contract was cancelled, and a long-standing funder withdrew a pledged grant they could no longer honor.
๐ Together, these losses wiped out roughly a quarter of Camino Verdeโs annual operating budget overnight. In 2026, a meaningful share of that gap still hasnโt been recovered. The situation makes it even harder to operate in a sector that was already under pressure to begin with.
Despite these constraints, between January and March, Camino Verde carried out an agroforestry planting campaign with us in Loreto, putting 9,934 trees in the ground, sponsored by our Go Forest clients. Community members carry out the planting, while the Camino Verde team follows up with monitoring of the parcels. The campaign also doubles as a moment for hands-on workshops.
๐ Our mission is to represent the underrepresented, in nature and in the communities protecting it.
