Our Entry for "Re-envisioning Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque" at Andarkilla, Chattogram, Architectural Design Competition organized by the Institute of Architects Bangladesh

The Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque preserves the long standing relationship between the heritage mosque, the marketplace, and the rhythms of daily life in Chittagong. Our design respects how the space has evolved over time—walking past the market, rising up to the plaza, pausing to see the city unfold, and experiencing the quiet peace of the eastern sky at Fajr. These moments define the relationship between the mosque and its surroundings, shaping a design that keeps these experiences intact.

At its foundation, the project layers spaces in a way that allows movement to flow naturally. The market plaza, sitting at the lowest level, is not just a place of commerce but a familiar and active part of the city, shaped by how people gather and move through it. From here, the path leads to the mosque plaza, elevated above the market yet connected to it, offering a sense of pause before stepping into the heritage mosque. Each transition is designed to feel seamless, keeping the interaction between the city, the market, and the mosque uninterrupted. Our intention was to keep the relationships intact, ensuring that Andarkilla Mosque remains as much a part of everyday life as it has always been.

We present to you one of our most favorite proposals- a vacation house designed for a vibrant joint family, who sought a space for precious gatherings within a limited budget. The project was originally set to design a conventional duplex house, but later we adopted it by mixing traditional and contemporary elements. Initially our focus was on creating central gathering spaces, where the family could cherish the moments of togetherness during their vacations. A double-height, semi-open central space with a mezzanine floor, bathed in natural light, beckons all to unite. Our client required six bedrooms - the layout of which are reminiscent of hotels, each opening onto a tranquil outdoor lawn via a semi-open hallway. Our vision was to provide a sense of relaxation to the vacationers. The serene white brick structure carries with it to create a sense of comfort. We've even included a touch of nostalgia, replicating the old grill pattern from the client's old house relics.
