Bangladesh is currently facing a major measles outbreak, with 62,000+ suspected cases and 500+ suspected and confirmed deaths reported nationwide, placing children in densely populated and underprivileged communities at the highest risk.

In response to this urgent public health concern, the Health Department volunteers of the Aim Initiative Foundation organized a Measles Awareness Program in Meradiya, Dhaka, engaging parents and community members on measles symptoms, prevention, hygiene practices, and the importance of timely vaccination.

For communities with limited healthcare access and awareness, sessions like this are more than awareness campaigns; they are critical preventive interventions that empower families with life-saving knowledge and help protect vulnerable children from preventable diseases.

Stories shape perspectives, preserve realities, and give communities a voice. With this belief, the Newspaper Club at Aim Initiative Foundation School was officially inaugurated last week with the valuable presence of Azad Baig, Digital Growth Editor at The Daily Star.

The inauguration marked the beginning of a student-led initiative where young learners will explore journalism, storytelling, reporting, and responsible communication. A committee of five students has been formed to lead the club alongside one of the school teachers serving as moderator.

As part of the inauguration, Azad Baig conducted an engaging session on how a newspaper club operates, how news is collected and verified, and the process of writing and publishing stories responsibly. The session encouraged students to observe more critically, ask thoughtful questions, and understand the importance of ethical storytelling.

We are sincerely grateful to Azad Baig for inspiring our students and encouraging them to become thoughtful communicators and active voices within their communities. The Newspaper Club will serve as a space where students learn the power of informed expression, leadership, and storytelling.

Our public speaking classes have officially begun as we work towards developing a dedicated Public Speaking Club for our students at Aim Initiative Foundation School.

This initiative is designed to help students strengthen their communication, confidence, critical thinking, and presentation skills from an early age through regular speaking activities, discussions, storytelling, and leadership-based exercises. We believe that strong speaking skills play a vital role in shaping future leaders, changemakers, and responsible individuals. By creating a safe and encouraging learning environment, we aim to empower underprivileged students with the confidence to express their ideas clearly, share their perspectives, and lead with purpose.
