Air Waybill (AWB) Explained

To many, it is “just paperwork.” In reality, it is a 45-point legally binding contract that makes international air freight possible.

1. MAWB No. – 11-digit master air waybill number with airline prefix + sequence + check digit.
2. HAWB No. – Issued by a freight forwarder, format flexible, often includes the forwarder code.
3. Shipper’s Name & Address – Full details + contact info.
4. Issued By – Airline (for MAWB) or Forwarder (for HAWB).
5. Consignee’s Name & Address – Full details + contact info.
6. Notify Party – Party informed upon arrival (agent or consignee).
7. Agent’s IATA Code – Forwarder’s IATA CASS code.
8. Account No. – IATA settlement account (if required).
9. Accounting Info – Freight terms (Prepaid / Collect).
10. Airport of Departure – Three-letter code (e.g. CAI).
11. Reference No. – For certificates or related docs.
12. Destination Airport – Three-letter code.
13. By First Carrier / To / By – Carrier codes + routing.
14. Currency – Origin currency (USD, EUR, CNY, etc).

27. Rate Class – M (Minimum), N (Normal), Q (Quantity), etc.
28. Commodity Item No. – Commodity-specific rate code.
29. Chargeable Weight – Greater of gross or volumetric weight.
30. Rate/Charge – Freight rate/unit.
31. Total – Total freight charges (rate × weight).
32. Nature & Quantity of Goods – Detailed description.
33. Weight Charge – Prepaid or Collect, depending on terms.
34. Valuation Charge – Prepaid/Collect valuation cost.
35. Tax – Prepaid or Collect tax amount.
36. Other Charges Due Agent – Charges owed to agent.
37. Other Charges Due Carrier – Charges owed to carrier.

Understanding Types of Ships in Global Logistics & Trade

In international shipping, not all vessels are the same. Each ship type plays a specific role in moving global commerce from containers and vehicles to oil, chemicals, food products, machinery, and oversized project cargo.

Container Ships - Move standard intermodal containers (TEUS)

Bulk Carriers - Ideal for unpackaged dry bulk cargo like grain, coal, ore

Tankers Transport liquid cargo (oil, chemicals, LNG)

Ro-Ro Vessels - Carry wheeled cargo like cars and trucks

Re**er Ships - Ship perishable goods under cold storage

General Cargo Ships - Handle mixed non-containerized goods

Multipurpose Vessels - Flexible: containers, bulk, general cargo

Heavy Lift Vessels - Carry oversized project cargo/industrial machinery

LASH Vessels - Carry smaller barges for loose cargo

Efficient global trade depends on choosing the right vessel for the right cargo.

As a logistics partner, we ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective movement of your goods.
