🧠 Not every brain processes information in the same way.
For many neurodivergent people, communication involves much more than simply finding the right words. Their brain may be processing sounds, sights, sensations and the conversation itself - all at the same time.
Because of this, responding to a question may take a little longer. If processing time isn't provided, it can be difficult to organise thoughts, access the right vocabulary or work out what information the other person is looking for. This can sometimes make responses seem confusing, even when the person understands exactly what's being asked.
One of the simplest ways to support neurodivergent communication is to pause and allow extra processing time before speaking again. Those few extra seconds can make a significant difference, helping someone organise their thoughts and communicate more clearly.
A little patience can go a long way. 💙
