Time To Imagine

Supporting Children’s Sense of Belonging is such a crucial role as an educator. Incorporating cultural experiences that use provocations as well as interactive resources allow the children to be curious learners, feel a sense of identity and belonging through discussions with educators and peers. I created this experience at home and my 3 year old expressed her interest and curiosity straight away. She asked questions, then started flicking through the pages, beautiful discussions took place and I had the opportunity to teach her about the amazing country her family are from and where all her siblings were born.

She found pictures of snow and asked if the penguins lived there and then wondered what lived in the water? These discussions took her to her Father where they then began to look at eels and he shared his knowledge and stories about catching eels and fish.

She continues to sit by his side looking at the different landscape pictures of New Zealand, sparking her interest, full of questions and eager to learn more about this beautiful country.
