One of my favourite Aussie songs of all time - I used to sing/play this many years ago in a Pub in Cairns in the "Tradies Bar" every week - & invariably I'd get a gang around the Piano singing along! I loved both the original version by The Dingoes & the James Bundell/James Reyne "country version"! The Dingoes recorded it in the Key of A - their lead singer Broderick Smith died aged 75 a couple of years back now but he'll be remembered for a long time - his vocal was great- so many high notes - and when the entire team of actors apparently sang along with him in the film RED DOG they must have all ended up with sore throats! I recorded this after midnight so that it is a True Australia Day recording -but in the key of F!

One of the Musicians that I will miss hearing "Live" in 2026 is Chris Rea - who left us just over a week ago! He was a unique musician - of humble nature - who wrote memorable songs like "Driving Home for Christmas" and became very popular in the 1980's. He managed to survive into this century only after beating-off Pancreatic cancer in the 1990's!!
His Gravelly voice and tasty Guitar Licks were an unforgettable feature of his sound. My favourite song of his was always the evocative "On The Beach" which I would often perform during my 20+ years of working - mostly onboard Cruise ships and also at various Resorts & Hotels. It's an appropriate song for those of us who live in Perth with our incredible Beaches - and a recent visit up north to the Ningaloo Reef was a reminder of just how lucky we are here!
I recorded 3 versions of this song last week in one session with my multi-key set-up, this version - the second one - I'm posting exclusively on Facebook, (the first one is on Youtube & the 2nd one on X. I usually record 2 or 3 somewhat different versions as they are basically all real-time extemporisations.
I've tried to give the song a somewhat Funky, slightly Jazzy, Easy-listening feel with Electric Piano, Organ, Doo-Wap and Orchestral Sounds. They represent a humble homage. Vale Chris Rea.
