NEW Sketch'n Ink Series - Part Nine IX (Comfort Foods Edition)
Now that I've completed my mega 2024 Lettering piece, I'm back into it with a new instalment of my Ink drawings. This time I have a food theme (I know, what an absolute shocker π). My obsession with comfort foods definitely comes through in my drawings. And my focus on food sketches is because it's more in my wheelhouse and I can't say that I'm confident drawing animals or people at this stage but its something I'm looking at working on down the track. For now, I'm content sticking to drawing what I know and developing the skills from there.
I've added some new brushes to my Procreate App program that I've loved nerding out over and I've used them in some of these drawings. One of them is the water bubble filter which I used for the orange slice drawing. It's handy not having to draw every single bubble and using various opacities to create a nice bit of depth to the bubbles I'd already drawn in ink.
My favourite sketch amongst this collection is the deconstructed falling Ice Cream Sundae on the bottom left. I'm happy with how the sketch shows the motion of the ingredients tumbling...

**NEW Lettering Artwork - '2024' Neopolitan Ice Cream - Strawberry, Vanilla & Chocolate Edition.
At the end of last year, I decided to get enthusiastically back into my favourite pastime of lettering & font design. I gave myself a New Years challenge to see how many versions of '24 I could come up with. After culling out some pretty strange and dodgy looking ones, the end result was 31 various styles.
This whole art piece basically screams nostalgia for me. The running theme here is Ice Cream, my first love & in particular Neopolitan which was my main go-to treat as a kid. It was a one stop shop for whatever mood you were in. I loved the stuff. On a very side note, my mood was mainly chocolate with a smidge of vanilla.
So anyway my idea with this piece was to present all the versions of '24 like they were individual stickers on a giant sticker sheet and that it would run across panoramic-style over 3 x IG posts so it is best viewed across 3 posts.
To complete the ice cream theme, I created the main '2024' in a chunky graffiti lettering style to resemble individual ice cream cones. I gave it that creamy texture using specific brushes in the Procreate App which worked out well in the end.
It's been a long time coming but it's finally completed. πππ

Sketch'n Ink Series - Part Two II (.designs)
+ the fun & challenging part of using permanent ink (preferably 0.05/0.1mm ultra fine liners) in the drawing process is that you're forced to get it right from the start as there are no undos. This makes the process v. interesting & at times means some drawings just flop. The finished result I'm sharing shows the full drawing process with no post-sketch adjustments...(aside from a small splash of colour on some)...it starts from the first faint structure lines followed by the bolder, main lines of the object and finally the thinner hatching lines to create form, depth, perspective and shading to complete the piece. Et voila! https://www.instagram.com/p/C4kbiIMP8Kg/?igsh=a2R3MmZ5bTE1azlh
