A Week of Coaching, A Week of Learning

This week, coaching for 7 hours a day, I learned that behind every role and title is a person navigating challenges, decisions, and aspirations. Some felt stuck, others celebrated achievements, and many were simply taking the next step forward. If there's one lesson, it's that we need to support one another a little more.

So tell me: what did you learn this week, who taught you, and what's one goal you're setting for next week?

"I'm Not a Micromanager"... Then Why Does It Feel Like One? 🤔

One of the biggest leadership blind spots is micromanagement. Many leaders will confidently say, "I don't micromanage," yet their behaviours tell a different story.

Signs of micromanagement include:
🔹 Constant requests for updates
🔹 Re-doing delegated work
🔹 Needing approval for every decision
🔹 Being copied into every email
🔹 Focusing on the process instead of the outcome

Often, micromanagement isn't about control. It's about a lack of trust or discomfort with uncertainty. Unfortunately, the impact is the same: reduced confidence, engagement, and ownership within teams.

If you're working for a micromanager:
Be proactive with updates
Clarify expectations and decision boundaries
Build trust through consistent delivery

Great leadership isn't about knowing everything. It's about creating the confidence and capability for others to succeed without constant oversight.
What behaviours do you think leaders mistake for support when they're actually micromanaging?

Know the Person, Not Just the Role

One of the greatest gifts a leader can give is genuine connection. Take the time to know the people you lead; their strengths, aspirations, challenges and what matters most to them. When people feel seen, heard and valued, trust grows and resilience follows.

In my third book, Leadership That Lifts Others leadership is explored as not just about managing performance; it is about understanding people. The stronger the connection, the stronger the team. View the reel below to learn more.

🎙️ One of the biggest challenges facing leaders today is helping teams navigate uncertainty around artificial intelligence.

In this episode of Show Up and Lead, Dr Nancy Pavisich and AI expert Ron Forlee discuss the concerns many employees have when AI enters the workplace.

While job security is often the first fear that comes to mind, many people are equally concerned about learning new skills, adapting to changing processes and keeping pace with technology.

Ron shares three practical recommendations for leaders:
âś” Educate yourself first. Leaders cannot guide others through change they do not understand.
âś” Establish clear governance. Develop AI policies that provide direction, consistency and support.
âś” Communicate openly. Create space for discussion and focus on how AI can reduce repetitive tasks, allowing people to focus on higher-value work.

The future of AI adoption will depend as much on leadership and communication as it does on technology itself.

🎙️What does real leadership look like?
Coming Thursday 2 July, Dr Nancy Pavisich sits down with Ron Forlee on Show Up and Lead to explore one of the most important lessons from his 45 years in business.

For Ron, leadership has never been about the individual.
“Leadership is not about you. Leadership is about your team.”

Throughout his career, Ron has learnt that true leaders take responsibility for outcomes, provide clear direction and resist the temptation to blame others when things go wrong.

After decades in business, he reflects on the many mistakes he has made, yet one principle has remained constant. He has never blamed a team member for those mistakes.

Instead, he asks:
“Did I provide the right direction? Did I show leadership?”

This powerful conversation explores accountability, ownership and the responsibility leaders have to encourage, motivate and help their teams reach the next level.

Because leadership is not about avoiding mistakes. It is about taking responsibility, learning from them and leading others forward.

🎙️ Building Trust in the Age of Algorithms: Leading with Heart in an AI-Driven World.

Coming soon Thursday 2nd July - In this episode of Show Up and Lead, Dr Nancy Pavisich FAIM FACEL IECL FILP Asia Pacific sat down with Ron Forlee, a leader whose career has spanned architecture, property development and artificial intelligence, to explore one of the most important leadership questions of our time.

A key takeaway from the conversation was that emotional intelligence is not a “soft skill” in the world of technology. It is an essential leadership capability.

As organisations increasingly adopt AI and emerging technologies, leaders must understand the concerns, motivations and fears that often accompany change.

Successful implementation is not simply about introducing new tools. It is about leading with empathy, maintaining human connection and ensuring wisdom and ethical decision-making remain at the centre of innovation.
Technology should support people, not replace them.

A Journey of Growth and Gratitude

Graduating from WA Leaders is both a proud milestone and a deeply reflective moment for me. I have had the privilege of learning alongside truly inspirational, ambitious, and hardworking individuals and engaging with organisations that lead with generosity and purpose. This experience has not only expanded my perspective on leadership and business but has also invited me to discover more about who I am as a businesswoman navigating an ever-evolving and dynamic world. I leave this chapter feeling both humbled and empowered and grateful for the connections made, the lessons learned, and the renewed clarity about the impact I want to create moving forward.
