April Boat Report- Jurien Bay 2 Day Comp
The new date had been set for the annual Jurien Bay 2 day comp to
the ANZAC long weekend to try improve our chances with better conditions. We attracted 9 boats with 21 anglers signing on for this one, numbers slightly lower than the usual J-bay two dayer in September.
We had a very reasonable forecast for this one with winds under 14 knots and the swell being friendlier than expected. With the FADS still deployed and pelagic action being on fire we where sure to see some decent fished brought over the scales.
We had plenty of Blue Fin Tuna caught and notably it was Dawn Cass who mentioned it was her first one weighed in at a comp! Dawn also weighed in her first Mullaway to go with- nice work. We had plenty of Mullaway come through the scales and it was Elliot Tunahursts 10.8kg that took out the biggest for the weekend. A few boats managed to work the FADS and where rewarded with dolphin fish. We had about ten sitting along side the boat just following up a wound in dredge, slippery suckers would not take a hook though! Sally and Scotty G had the pick of the dollies and I am pretty sure as normal, Sally had the bigger one out of the two. Only the one Yellow Tail King weighed in for the comp. After getting railed by some solid ones I managed to coax a 13Kg model to the boat!
Into the weigh in we had the one Mini Junior Taylor Gauci represent. Taylor fished with grandad and 2 species, 2 heaviest,275grams with 32.6 points. In the Juniors also a lone soldier fishing with grandad was Jade Gauci. Jade had 1 specie, also the heaviest, 148 grams with 16.3 points. The girls getting it done whilst mum and dad went out wider.
We had a few vets make it for this one and in third with 3 species, 1 heaviest, 1.03kg and 38.1 points was Clive Powell. In second and we do not say this much was Terry Bell. Terry had 5 species, 4 heaviest, 14.84kg and 103.7 points. In first with 8 species, 5 heaviest, 6.57kg and 123.1 points was Phil Pollard- well done mate.
Onto the ladies divi in third with 2 species, 4.949kg and 29.9 points was Belinda Mallon. In second with a solid bag was Dawn Cass. Dawn had 5 species, 4 heaviest, 11.45kg and 96.9 points. Taking out the chocolates in first was Sally G with 7 species, 6 heaviest, 8.12kg and 122.2 points!
Into the boys and it was a shootout between deckie and skipper for second. In third with 8 species, 1 heaviest, 7.64kg and 101.3 points was Chuckie. Just taking second with 7 species, 2 heaviest, 9.83kg and 101.7 points was Tony O'Sullivan! Sooo close. in first with a very solid bag for Jurien with no demersals was myself. Buckets had 10 species, 2 heaviest, 24.74kg and 161.5 points- belted my deckie RED!
Sausage sizzle was on thanks to Belinda for cooking up.
After the weigh in we got the fire pit out to sit around and spill some yarns about the weekend. Lil Joe and Chuckie seen that not many would be standing to close to fire this year as the flames went higher than the shed!
Having this comp on the ANZAC long weekend did not have the same "feel" about it and numbers did show.
Hopefully once our new calendar is up we can all have some input on how we can get it back to the norm again with as many involved as possible.
Cheers to terry for once again having no issues with us holding the comp at the house, very much appreciated.
Next Boat comp is 2 day May Comp held in Perth.
Buckets Out.
