Yesterday’s plan was simple.

Head into the city. Chase some stories through the grey skies, wet streets, and reflections that only show up when Perth decides to put on a bit of weather.

There was just one problem.

I grabbed my Canon R5 and trusty 70-200mm setup… and brought exactly one battery.

A battery that was completely flat.

So my usual street photography setup was dead before I even took a shot.

The only camera I had left was my R50 V with a 10-18mm lens. A camera I use for vlogging, not photography.

At first, it felt awkward. I was constantly fighting the urge to shoot the way I normally do. The focal length was different. The approach was different. Everything felt unfamiliar.

But somewhere along the way, that became the point.

I had to get closer. Think differently. Look for different compositions. Different stories.

It wasn’t comfortable, but it reminded me that sometimes limitations are the best creative tool you’ve got.

Not every shoot goes to plan.

Sometimes the flat battery ends up teaching you something the fully charged one never would.
