๐ŸŒUWA Alumni Receptions Across Hong Kong, Guangzhou & Shanghai

It was wonderful to see our alumni community come together across Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shanghai this June, as we welcomed the summer season with a series of vibrant gatherings.

From 33 attendees in Hong Kong, to 37 in Guangzhou, and 24 in Shanghai, these events celebrated connection, shared experiences, and the strength of the UWA global network.

Each evening provided valuable opportunities for alumni to reconnect, expand their professional networks, and engage with fellow graduates living and working across the region.

These gatherings reflect our ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for our alumni around the world to connect, fostering meaningful relationships that extend well beyond graduation.

๐Ÿ’™We are especially grateful to everyone who joined us, and to those who continue to support and strengthen our global alumni community.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธWe now look ahead with excitement and look forward to connecting with alumni again in November at our Alumni Receptions in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Stay tuned for more details. We hope to see you there.

๐ŸŒˆWhat comes to mind when you hear the word "pride"?

Today, many people associate it with confidence, belonging and community. But throughout history, pride has meant very different things- from one of the seven deadly sins to a symbol of honour, protest, identity and empowerment.

In a recent article, UWA Honorary Research Fellow Dr. Melissa Black explores how the meaning of pride has evolved over centuries, shaped by changing social, cultural and political contexts.

It's a fascinating reminder that even emotions aren't fixed- they change alongside society itself.

As we mark Pride Month, the article explores how pride came to represent belonging and visibility for LGBTQ+ communities, while also examining the many ways the emotion has been understood throughout history.

๐Ÿ’›It's a thought-provoking look at how one simple word can tell a much bigger story.
