Last week the ExplorOz crew headed to Inskip Point to check the camping areas before continuing on to the 4WD beach run from Rainbow Beach, to Double Island Point and Teewah beach to Tewantin.

There had been a bit of conflicting information around the current camping situation, so we wanted to verify what was actually on the ground before updating our records.

The verdict? We came away impressed.

The Inskip Point camping areas have recovered remarkably well and looked inviting. ExplorOz team member Leon joined us for the day (a welcome change from his campervan, which isn’t built for soft sand!), so after checking the campgrounds and watching the Manta Ray barge heading to K’gari, we made our way to Rainbow Beach to continue our field work.

From there we drove the beach to Double Island Point, where Leon finally got to tick off his first surf on Australia’s east coast, before crossing via Leisha Track and finishing the run along Teewah Beach.

A few observations from our visit:
✅ The campgrounds we inspected were open and in good condition.
✅ Despite the school holidays, the beaches were surprisingly quiet.
✅ The Rainbow Beach–Double Island Point section still needs to be driven around low tide and you need to buy a permit online - ours was $16 for a day permit. Purchased online instantly.
✅ Inskip Point remains one of Queensland’s best-value beach camping destinations.
