π·οΈ Ballooning spider takeover in Darwin!
Today, we were hit with a wave of tiny flying spiders, drifting through the air on silk and weaving webs all over the rigging. Zoom in and youβll see fine threads stretched between the lines.
Last week, they spun so much web that they actually stopped our wind instruments from working, and we had to clean everything off!
Turns out theyβre ballooning spiders... harmless little guys who float through the air during calm weather. Cool to watch, but not ideal when you're relying on sensors to sail.
πΈοΈ Fun Facts:
β’ Charles Darwin saw spiders landing on the HMS Beagle, far out at sea, and was baffled.
β’ Ballooning spiders have been found as high as 5 km (16,000 ft) in the atmosphere.
β’ They can sense and launch using the Earthβs electric field, not just wind. Literally floating on static vibes.
So yep, spiders really do travel by air. Tiny aeronauts hitching rides on invisible currents.
They might meet Mortein if they stay around !!

At least twice a week, we cook up Ramen Noodles. It's a fast, budget-friendly meal that actually hits the spot? This easy ramen noodle hack is the answer! All you need is a pack of instant ramen, an egg, soy sauce, and green onions (optional but highly recommended for added flavour). In just 10 minutes, youβll have a steaming bowl of upgraded noodles that taste way better than basic!
π₯ How to Make It:
1οΈβ£ Boil ramen noodles as usual.
2οΈβ£ Crack an egg in the pot while it's boiling β poach it right in there! (We didnt have any eggs as Darwin has none at the moment)
3οΈβ£ Add a splash of soy sauce, garlic powder, and chilli flakes if you like heat.
4οΈβ£ Top with chopped fried onions or anything youβve got on hand! We've added a spicy dried seaweed snack that tastes great here.
Itβs savoury, satisfying, and costs less than $2. Perfect after a busy day when you can't be bothered putting much effort in! π₯’πΈ
