Newman Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the devastating Polair crash on 26th January 2001 that tragically claimed the lives of 4 WA Police Officers.

Today, we remember Senior Constable Donald Everett, Senior Constable Philip Ruland, First Class Constable David Dewar and Constable Gavin Capes. 💙💙💙💙

Whilst time has continued for us, they will never be forgotten. We continue to remember them every year on their anniversary and through the Bloodyslow Games in October.

Don't forget tomorrow morning from 7am the lolly run will be kicking off with Santa and the Emergency Services volunteers of Newman!

Please note our teams split in to groups to cover the whole town so we can get home to our families, we will not be going back down streets if you miss us!

How did we spend our weekend?
With 21hrs on the fire ground, patrolling, waiting for this beauty to burn to us. With good weather conditions for a slow burn it progressed towards the golf course at a rate where we could manage the fire with a small crew in a high spinifex area.
It made for some good photos, burning in an area we estimate hasn't burnt for 15+ years!! Put a few of us to work using knapsacks to tackle the rocky terrains underneath.
