A new Australian study exploring birth satisfaction in almost 400 women found something that every expectant mother deserves to know.

Women who felt listened to, respected and emotionally supported described more positive birth experiences, even when their birth didn’t go to plan. In contrast, women who felt unheard or unsupported often described these interpersonal experiences as central to their dissatisfaction.

Interestingly, the researchers found that birth satisfaction wasn’t explained by the label of the maternity care model alone. Clinical factors such as caesarean birth, ongoing maternal complications, mental wellbeing and the presence of a birth companion also played an important role. But throughout the women’s own words, one message stood out: how they were treated mattered.

This is why I’m so passionate about helping women build the right care team.

The right care provider won’t necessarily prevent every intervention or complication.

But they should make you feel:
✨ Heard.
✨ Respected.
✨ Informed.
✨ Safe to ask questions.
✨ Supported through every decision.

Because birth isn’t only about what happens to you.
It’s also about how you’re cared for while it happens.
If you’re pregnant, don’t just ask “What services do they offer?”

Ask yourself:

“Do I feel genuinely heard by this person?”
