Most practices invest heavily in finding the right person.

Then the onboarding begins. Someone experienced sits with the new starter. Tasks are observed. Questions are asked. Knowledge transfers informally, depending on who is available and how much time they have.

No documented process. No structured check-in. No defined timeline for becoming genuinely capable.

By week twelve, some capable new hires have already decided to leave. The practice calls it the wrong hire.

Most of the time, it was the right hire and the wrong onboarding.
