UN Global Road Safety Week – Keeping Children Safe
This week is UN Global Road Safety Week, a global campaign raising awareness about the importance of safe roads, safe behaviours and protecting children and families in our communities.
For young children, road safety begins with simple everyday learning. Holding hands near roads, using car restraints correctly, wearing helmets and learning to stop and look before crossing are all important habits that help keep children safe.
Simple ways families can support road safety
• Model safe behaviours around roads and crossings
• Talk to children about stopping, looking and listening before crossing
• Ensure children are correctly restrained in vehicles
• Wear helmets when riding bikes or scooters
• Practise safe routines during walks, school drop-offs and outings

Simple ways families can support hand hygiene

• Use soap and water and wash for at least 20 seconds
• Make it fun by singing a short song while washing

International Compost Awareness Week – Small Changes, Big Impact
From 3rd to 9th May, we celebrate International Compost Awareness Week — a great opportunity to explore how simple actions can make a positive impact on our environment.
Composting helps reduce waste and turns food scraps into nutrient-rich soil, supporting healthier gardens and a healthier planet. It’s also a wonderful way to introduce children to sustainability in a hands-on, meaningful way.
Simple ways families can get involved
• Start a small compost bin or worm farm at home
• Collect fruit and vegetable scraps and talk about where they go
• Use compost to grow herbs or plants together
• Explore what can and can’t be composted
• Encourage children to be part of the process
