In the busyness of leading, itโs easy to focus on goals, performance, and getting things done. Yet creating time for connection internally and with those we work with is often what determines how we truly show up as leaders.
When we make space to pause, reflect, and nurture meaningful relationships, we lead with greater presence, empathy, and intention. These moments of connection strengthen trust, build resilience, and create a positive ripple effect in every area of our lives.
Leadership isnโt just about what we achieve. Itโs about who we are and how we connect with others along the way.
That might look like putting your watch on Do not Disturb or NOT bringing your phone into a 1 to 1.
What action can you take to give yourself the intention of being open to connection?๐ค
๐ค If youโre ready to lead with more clarity, presence, and purpose, letโs chat.

I joined a new gym recently and I'm loving it.
This morning, I had one of those moments that reminded me how important the relationship between learning and leadership really is.
As the newbie, I spend a lot of time watching those around me to understand what I need to do next. Role modelling in action.
But sometimes observing isn't enough.
I was putting a barbell back into a rack when a coach walked over and said:
"You're not that tall."
It wasn't intended badly, but it landed a little judgey. I felt that familiar sting of embarrassment or possibly shame.
My immediate internal response was:
"OK, well I don't know what I'm doing, so teach me."
Instead of reacting, I paused and asked for what I needed:
"This is the first time I've used this equipment. Could you talk me through what to do?"
The energy changed immediately.
The coach explained the process, I learned something new, and the rapport between us actually increased.
It reminded me that learning environments are shaped by both sides of the conversation.
๐น If you're the coach, manager, or leader: pay attention to the environment you're creating through your words, tone, and assumptions.
๐น If you're the learner, team member, or employee: pause before reacting and ask for what you need.
Sometimes the fastest way through discomfort is curiosity.

In busy workplaces, it is easy to focus on tasks, deadlines, and results. Yet the strongest leaders understand that people thrive when they feel seen, heard, and valued.
Connection grows through the small moments. Taking time to listen, paying attention to what matters to others, and sharing the purpose behind what you do all help build trust and strengthen relationships.
When leaders create a sense of connection, they create teams that are more engaged, collaborative, and resilient. Sometimes the simplest actions leave the greatest impact.
