Since Australia’s national environment protection laws took effect 25 years ago, more than 7 million hectares of threatened species habitat has been destroyed; every hour Australia bulldozes the equivalent of 28 Sydney Opera Houses of threatened species habitat. Successive governments continue to approve new and expanded coal and gas mines, fueling runaway climate change. Urgent nature protection and climate action are needed now. Governments have done too little on nature protection and climate action.
Representatives from each major political party have been invited and will be questioned on their commitments to nature protection and climate action. There will be the opportunity for audience questions. We have confirmation from (in last name alphabetical order):
Isabel Mudford: Candidate for Canberra, ACT Greens
Alicia Payne: Federal Member for Canberra, ACT Labor
David Pocock: Independent Senator for the ACT
It is more important than ever before that we keep up the pressure on our political representatives. Come along to show local politicians and candidates that nature protection and climate action is at the top of the political agenda this election year.
Be there!

Reposted from Long caption alert ‼️
Federal parliament is done and dusted for the year 😳
The Prime Minister has squandered an opportunity to give Australians hope ahead of the next election when it comes to protecting nature.
We came so close to getting a deal to secure an independent environmental regulator.
The national EPA would have put a stop to political interference in decision-making on projects that harmed the environment.
The irony?
The deal was shot down at the eleventh hour by the Prime Minister at the behest of the WA mining industry.
Shame 😮💨
More than 85% of Australians want stronger nature laws.
We all love nature and want to see it protected for years to come.
Not passing the Nature Positive bills has failed the next generation of kids who may never grow up to see a koala in a big old gumtree 💔
There is one good thing to say on the climate front.
The Greens, crossbench and government reached an agreement to pass the Future Made in Australia legislation which rules out funding for coal, oil and gas ✅
But Labor still insists on providing an eye-watering $1.9 billion subsidy for the Middle Arm gas precinct.
And on top of this, our nature laws remain broken.
What will next year bring?
Nature needs us, now - more than ever 🐨
