The impact of COVID-19 on our elderly has reached concerning levels. Recent data reveals a stark reality: COVID-related deaths in Australian residential aged care have more than doubled compared to peak pandemic periods.
The numbers tell a sobering story:
2,415 COVID-related deaths from February 2020 to May 2022 (15 months)
4,778 COVID-related deaths from May 2022 to January 2024 (less than 8 months)

Healthcare experts point to vaccination fatigue as a critical factor. Currently:
Over 100 aged care facilities report less than 10% resident vaccination rates
More than 200 facilities show only 20-30% of residents vaccinated within the past 6-12 months
