This year’s NAIDOC Week marked and we were proud to join the country’s largest celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, culture and resilience. 🖤💛❤️
We began the week with a showing of Country Arts SA Nunga Screen for our city-based staff, celebrating First Nations culture, language and creativity through powerful storytelling and film.
The week continued with many memorable events, including the Port Augusta NAIDOC Youth, Mini and Tiny Tots Ball, many staff events in local and regional offices, and finished with DHS staff walking in solidarity at the SA NAIDOC March and engaging with families at the Family Festival at Tarntanyangga (Victoria Square).
It was especially deadly to see our MAYFS Deadly Diversion Leaders group getting out and about to enjoy the celebrations! 👏✨
As NAIDOC Week comes to a close, we remain committed to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and uplifting their voices and decision making on issues that affect them.

From 1 July, updates to the Carers Recognition Act 2005 (SA) deliver the most significant changes in two decades, strengthening recognition and support for South Australia's 245,000 unpaid carers.
Key changes include a broader definition of ‘carer’, a new South Australian Carers Charter, and stronger obligations for public sector agencies, including annual reporting requirements. In practice, this means carers can expect services better designed around their needs, more informed support from public sector employees, and an easier path to balancing caring with work.
DHS is proud to administer the Act and support those providing care, as well as those putting these changes into practice.
