Adsum Richer Things - Fine Woodworking

Back at my lathe for the first time since breaking my right scaphoid in January (got the all-clear yesterday - yay!)
And I’m wasting no time whatsoever…there’s muscle memory to get back, things to make for upcoming markets, and a woodturning conference to prepare for!
To get a feel for the tools again, I started with a simple wand in American Ash. It served to remind me just how whippy wand blanks get in the middle; it makes turning the middle an utter pain in the proverbial! (And a LOT more sanding than I’d like…😖) Note to self: investigate steady rests and experiment with using one.
Then to get a feel for fine work with the skew chisel, I turned a pen in Huon Pine. The picture and photo show the finish I got off the tool, before I started sanding - for a nearly three-month hiatus, I’ll take it!
Market Dates:
This long weekend I’ll be at the Ebenezer Night Markets (Ebenezer Place, in the Adelaide CBD) on Saturday 7th AND Sunday 8th March, 5.30-10.30pm.
I’ll also be at the Ebenezer Night Markets next weekend (Sat 14th March), 5.30-10.30pm.
Then it’s back into the shed to practice like crazy, because at the end of March I’m heading up to Sea World Resort in Queensland for Turnfest. I’ll be demonstrating how I turn my eggs and pens in the clinic area next to the pop-up shop. I’m a little nervous because it’s my first time demonstrating (and I’ve been out of practice because of the broken hand/wrist 😖)…hopefully the old teacher brain kicks into gear.

Been a bit quiet since Christmas (a broken hand didn’t help!) but it’s time to get back to work!
My first market dates for the new year are the Ebenezer Night Markets, just off Union St in the city. Starting this Saturday, you can find us in Ebenezer Place on the following dates and times:

Everything at the Adsum Richer Things stall is hand made by me or AdsumDad in our workshops, right here in Adelaide - like the segmented bowl in the second photo. Made with ash and featuring blackwood and maple accents, it measures 27cm in diameter and 11cm high - the perfect size for a small fruit bowl.
