Founder & CEO, XREye

Katharina Krösl is a senior XR researcher, the Founder and CEO of XREye, a TU Wien i²c spin-off, and holds a PhD in computer science with a focus on extended reality and visual perception. She is driven by the goal of creating a positive social impact by helping people understand how individuals with vision impairments experience the world and by inspiring more accessible design in architecture and beyond. Her award-winning work has influenced accessibility standards in Austria, and as a WOMENinICT ambassador, she actively promotes the visibility of women in technology and stands for inclusive innovation.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗫𝗥𝗘𝘆𝗲:
XREye uses extended reality to simulate how people with vision impairments perceive their surroundings. The immersive software enables users to experience conditions such as cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, corneal diseases, diabetic retinopathy, or color blindness. It fosters empathy, improves communication, and supports inclusive design across industries. XREye's simulations have been showcased at both company-internal and public events, including the Day of Inclusion at TU Graz and the Diversity Ball in Vienna, helping raise awareness and inspire more accessible thinking.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿: 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝗳𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗻
XR/Experience Designer

Kris has been working in animation since graduating from the Royal College of Art in London in 2010. Since moving to Vienna in 2018, her focus has been on the design of immersive experiences for children and young people.

Together with developer Andreas Wuthe she created a wide variety of AR experiences with partners such as the Austrian National Library, the Photographers Gallery in London or FOUR PAWS.

Out of Nowhere - her first VR film - premiered at Venice Immersive in August 2025, and has since been selected to be shown at GIFF in Geneva, Art*VR or the Next Reality Conference in Hamburg among many others

Alongside her own creative practice she acts as an expert advisor at the Austrian Institute of Technology.

In collaboration with , we are very excited to host three inspiring women developers and creators based in Austria. Coming from diverse fields - creative tech, entrepreneurship, and research - they will share their unique perspectives on immersive technologies and how they are contributing in shaping the XR landscape in Austria and beyond.

✨ Throwback to the beautiful collaboration we had last month with the Viennese animation film festival Tricky Women / Tricky Realities 2025 ! 💚

Three interactive VR works - “Kabaret” by Gina Thorstensen , “Cathex” by Sine Özbilge & Imge Özbilge , and “Where does the rest of the world begin” by Dagmar Schürrer have been exhibited at the METRO Kinokulturhaus mezzanine with free entrance - it was great to see how many people could try the experiences in VR/MR for the first time!

As part of the festival program, a Q&A was also held with the artists, moderated by our co-organizer

Thank you and the especially the directing team, Waltraud Grausgruber, Lara Bellon and Lisa Heuschober, for this great cooperation! Looking forward to more collaborations together, to bring more visibility to female creators at the intersection of animation film and XR technologies! 🙌💚
