World Security Patrol Association
Statement by United International Security Association’s President Oliver Becker, CCPA®, CCSeM®
I am deeply shocked by the tragic incident at the Christmas market in Magdeburg/Germany. A driver deliberately drove into a crowd of people, an act that authorities have classified as a targeted attack. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this horrific event.
According to initial reports, the suspected perpetrator, a man from Saudi Arabia, has already been taken into custody. The exact background and motives of this act are currently under investigation. Many people have been injured, and tragically, we have already learned of fatalities. This is an unimaginable loss that deeply saddens us all.
The Christmas market is a place of joy and community – a symbol of peaceful togetherness. It is all the more devastating that such violence has struck this cherished space. As the representative of the United International Security Associations, I call for solidarity and unity in these difficult times. At the same time, we extend our gratitude to the emergency services tirelessly working at the scene. Their efforts are invaluable.
We will closely monitor further developments and are ready to offer our support. In these challenging moments, it is more important than ever to remain calm and to focus on our shared values of peace and humanity.
