5th February 2016, Dubai

In a historic program organised by GLEE Events, around 600 Urdu-lovers from various parts of UAE witnessed the biggest Pakistani names of Urdu literature - Anwar Maqsood and Zia Mohyeddin – perform exclusively together for the very first time.

Ek Shaam Urdu Adab Ke Naam (An Evening of Urdu Literature) was held at the Pakistan Auditorium at Pakistan Association Dubai. The event was conducted by Imtiaz Mirza – a very renowned and old name in the radio world.

The evening commenced with Zia Mohyeddin, who narrated the work of Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi and Mir Taqi Mir. He also delivered accounts from his own writings.
Mohyeddin – who had just introduced his new book ‘The God Of My Idolatry’ at the press conference on the 4th in Dubai – received a standing ovation from the audience for his performance.

The second half of the show saw Anwar Maqsood – known as ‘the master of ceremonies’ – deliver a presentation in his typical satirical style. From talking about his ongoing stage show ‘Siachen’ to his views on current affairs, Maqsood spread laughter and merriment across the hall. He ended his performance with his recent appearance in Coke Studio Pakistan in the famous ‘Chiriyaan Da Chamba’.

The artists were each presented with an Award of Excellence by GLEE Events for their contribution to Urdu Literature. These were presented by the respected chief guest for the evening Noor Ul Hassan Tanvir – a well-known businessperson and social figure in Dubai. He was accompanied by guests of honour Haroon Malik – Welfare Counsellor at the Pakistani Consulate, Iftikhar Hamdani – General Manager of Ramada Hotel Ajman, and Muazzam Beg – Bollywood movie writer.

To close the evening, Anwar Maqsood presented a special award to Dr Azhar Zaidi for his contribution to Urdu Literature in the UAE.
