How to Raise a University’s Profile: Pricing and Packaging 11/03/2015

The value of education is a topic that frequently engulfs our discussions here at the iEdit office. Monetizing the student experience seems to be the norm today, with universities charging above-market-prices - essentially treating your education as a luxury good.

George Washington University is perhaps the emblem of luxury education for the sake of luxury education. In the words of its president, we present you the leading monetization practices among contemporary universities:

"Mr. Trachtenberg convinced people that George Washington was worth a lot more money by charging a lot more money. Unlike most college presidents, he was surprisingly candid about his strategy. College is like vodka, he liked to explain. Vodka is by definition a flavorless beverage. It all tastes the same. But people will spend $30 for a bottle of Absolut because of the brand. A Timex watch costs $20, a Rolex $10,000. They both tell the same time."

Makes you rethink of how much you value that degree, doesn't it?

10 Online Tools for Better Attention & Focus 19/02/2015

Greetings fellow iEdit-ers!

This past Tuesday, one of our brilliant consultants, Greg, shared this app called "SelfControl" to our group chat. The application essentially protects you from, well, yourself.

If you’re addicted to the internet, Facebook, Twitter and other social networks; there’s nothing to stop you from constantly launching the browser and surfing. “Just 5 minutes,” that’s what you keep telling yourself. Before you know it, over an hour has passed and you still haven’t gotten any work done. In these situations, only Self Control can prevent you from straying - the app blocks a specified list of websites for distinct periods of time, thus preventing you from accessing any distracting websites.

Inspired by Greg's flash of brilliance, we embarked on a journey to find the top productivity-enhancing applications out there. So here we go, the list that every student (lazy, or not) has been waiting for.

Focus away!

With much love,

Chinese Students Lead Foreign Surge at U.S. Colleges 04/12/2014

Education is a globalized game and this article is all about that. Our consultants here at iEdit thought that this article might interest some of the Chinese students that have reached out to us in recent months.

The numbers: almost 60% of the added international students that applied to U.S institutions in 2013 were Chinese, spearheading a wider preference of an American over a British education.

The outcome: tougher admissions rates for international students and more strict admissions criteria. (i.e. higher SAT scores required, tougher screening of admissions essays, relatively less interview slots provided)

The solution: in one word, iEdit.

Chinese Students Lead Foreign Surge at U.S. Colleges In 2013-14, American colleges enrolled a record 886,052 foreigners, an increase of 8 percent from the previous year. Chinese were almost 60 percent of the growth in foreign students.
